The Polaris Challenge started life in 1991 as the World's first mountain bike navigation event. Since then it has taken place at stunning venues all over the UK, as well as South Africa, Australia, France and Germany. The Challenge was last in Cumbria in 2005 and the riding was as rugged and memorable as anywhere in the UK. The concept sees solo riders and pairs of riders enjoying an off-road biking adventure hunting for checkpoints all over the surrounding forests, mountains and valleys. You choose what time you set off on the Saturday and Sunday morning and ride for 6 hours and 4 hours respectively, returning to base overnight for a special night stage, enjoy some craic in the event village and compare routes with fellow participants. The Autumn Polaris 'Light and Night' Challenge has been very much an adventurers affair, with large and small groups of riders congregating with tents, caravans, motorhomes and all the trappings of a good old weekend away in the outdoors to have a blast on the bikes over some great off-road terrain. It's all at www.polarischallenge.com including pricing, registration information, kit lists and more.
